We can match you to a group or transport request that suits your availability, with opportunities available during the day, in the evenings and at weekends. Our Community Car Scheme relies on volunteers who are willing to help others in their community. Volunteers will be PVG checked, and full training and support are provided. All reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, are reimbursed. An electric pool car is available for volunteers to facilitate this service. Our Lunch Club Assistants help serve a hot two-course lunch, provided by Heart of Africa at the LDVG centre and by school kitchens at our community-based clubs. Volunteers assist with serving, making tea and coffee, collecting payments, and tidying up. Activities such as bingo, quizzes and dominoes follow lunch, making it a fun and social role. Volunteers should be reliable, understanding, good listeners and respectful of confidentiality.

Our Call Line provides friendly, regular, non-emergency phone calls to lonely or vulnerable people living in Lanarkshire. Volunteers make daily calls Monday to Friday, in the morning or afternoon, offering reassurance and social contact. As a Call Line Volunteer, you’ll be placed on a rota based on your availability, making calls and liaising with staff about any concerns. Full training is provided, and you’ll make a real difference in helping others feel connected and cared for. Role Profile - Activity Groups and Call Line

Our free Handyperson Service supports community members who can’t manage certain household tasks. Volunteers visit clients’ homes to assess and carry out small, non-emergency jobs such as simple repairs or DIY tasks. Volunteers should have their own transport (expenses reimbursed) and an interest in DIY and helping others. Full training is provided, and all volunteers must be PVG checked. We hold two annual fundraising events – our Coffee Morning & Plant Sale and our Christmas Fayre – and volunteers are needed to help with planning, promotion and running the events. You can assist on the day, donate items or home baking, or help raise awareness in the community. We also take part in local events such as the Larkhall Summer Gala and Christmas Markets, where volunteers help decorate floats, assist at stalls and take part in parades. There are also smaller opportunities to help with stalls, token sales and community outreach throughout the year. If you’re enthusiastic about community events and enjoy meeting people, this is a great way to get involved. Role Profile - Fundraising, Events and Digital Media

We’re always looking for volunteers with specialist skills who can help in a variety of ways. Whether you can answer phones, update the website, create newsletters, deliver leaflets, or even run a class, your time and skills are always appreciated. As LDVG grows, so does our need for extra help – if you have something to offer, please get in touch with our Project Coordinator to discuss how you could get involved.

As a Trustee, you’ll help guide the strategic direction of LDVG, working with fellow Board Members and staff to achieve our vision. The Board meets every 2 months at our offices in Larkhall, with the option to join various subgroups who meet when required. This is an unpaid position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed. Excellent guidance for trustees is available through OSCR and SCVO.
