Call Line

Our free Call Line offers friendly, regular phone calls for lonely or vulnerable people living in the Lanarkshire area. Volunteers make daily calls from Monday to Friday, either in the morning or afternoon, for a friendly chat and to check that members are safe and well. Calls are made from our LDVG centre or remotely using one of our mobile phones. The service provides reassurance and social contact for those who live alone and feel isolated.

Community Cafe

Alongside the fridge, our Community Café also runs Fridays, 12pm – 2pm. This offers a warm, welcoming space for everyone to drop in, relax, and enjoy good company. The café is completely free, with complimentary refreshments and a friendly atmosphere where you can chat, meet new people, or simply take a break. No booking needed — just come along when it suits you. Whether you’re popping in for a cuppa, a conversation, or a bit of both, you’ll always be made very welcome.

Community Car

Our Community Car Scheme supports people who have difficulty attending non-emergency NHS medical appointments due to transport barriers. Volunteer drivers, all PVG-checked, use our electric pool car to collect passengers, assist them where needed and wait to take them home. The service mainly runs weekdays during daytime hours, with evening or weekend trips available when possible. Volunteers are always needed for this valuable service – training provided.

Community Fridge

Our Community Fridge, funded by Hubbub and Co-op, helps reduce food waste by redistributing surplus items from local businesses. It’s open to everyone in the community Fridays, 12pm – 2pm, and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Items vary weekly, and updates are shared on Facebook each Friday morning. Donations from individuals aren’t accepted, but businesses are encouraged to contribute.

Handyperson

Our Handyperson Service provides free help with small, non-emergency household tasks, carried out by our PVG-checked volunteers. From changing light bulbs and hanging curtains to small DIY jobs, the service offers support to those who may struggle to manage these tasks themselves. Labour is free, and only the cost of materials needs to be covered. This project was established following community feedback and launched with funding from Awards for All Scotland. Although that funding has now ended, the work continues thanks to the generosity of our supporters. Donations are essential to help us keep supporting our community and meeting local needs.

Lunch Clubs

We run six lunch clubs each week, offering a freshly prepared two-course meal, tea and coffee, and the chance to socialise with friends. Members can also enjoy games such as bingo and cards before or after lunch, with transport available via our accessible minibuses (subject to availability). Clubs are held at the LDVG centre and local primary school community wings, providing a welcoming space to eat well, meet new people and enjoy good company.

Shopping Bus

We operate three weekly shopping bus services for older residents of Ashgill, Strutherhill/Birkenshaw and Hareleeshill. Members are collected from their homes, taken to a supermarket and returned home with their shopping. Outings include visits to local stores in Larkhall as well as larger supermarkets further afield, helping people stay independent and connected.

Ashgill: Mondays, 10am – 12 noon
Strutherhill/Birkenshaw: Wednesdays, 10am – 12 noon
Hareleeshill: Thursdays, 10am – 12 noon
