About Us
Larkhall & District Volunteer Group (LDVG) is a voluntary organisation formed in September 1994, originally known as Avondale Careline. It began as a simple way to provide friendly phone calls to older, disabled and housebound people who were at risk of isolation. Over the years, our services have expanded to meet the growing and changing needs of the local community.
We primarily operate in and around Larkhall, Stonehouse, Ashgill and Netherburn, but we also offer support to people further afield when possible. The Larkhall area spans around 60 square miles, located adjacent to the M74 between Junctions 7 and 9, about 20 miles south of Glasgow. Our work supports both rural and urban communities, each with their own unique needs and circumstances.
LDVG is a registered charity (SC028557) and proud to be a well-established part of the Lanarkshire community.
Our Aims
Our aim is to promote the health and wellbeing of people within the Lanarkshire community.
To achieve this, we:
- Provide a wide range of services to support daily living and reduce isolation.
- Offer activities and groups that promote social connection and independence.
- Create meaningful volunteering opportunities that empower local people to make a difference.
We are also committed to advancing the Fair Work First criteria in collaboration with the Scottish Government, ensuring fair treatment, effective voice conditions and the payment of the real Living Wage for all staff.
